This is an Awesome setup, just remove your oil filter, thread it onto your block and put on the shorter version of the same filter and that is it. Now you can pull the magnetic particles out of your oil before they have a chance to wear out bearings and plug up oil galilees. The Magdog is easy to maintain every 25,000 miles or 8 oil changes just open it up and wipe off the magnets, put on a new filter and add oil. This is a really good thing to have if you are about to start an engine for the first time or after a re-build, so any metallic particles that are flushed through the oiling system will be pulled out of the oil instead of being pushed through again.
Inside the Magdog : When we open it up we find 15 very strong rare earth magnets that pull almost every bit of ferrous material out of the oil, on one side of the magnet we find a mesh screen, this makes it easier to clean the partials off the magnets. The kit comes with The housing, 15 magnets, two O-rings, two Allen wrenches, the mail thread adapter wrench and the mail thread adapter. The housing is taped on the side to add an extra oil temp or pressure sensor or you can use it to pull an oil sample. It is recommended to clean the magnets every 15,000 miles or every fifth oil change.
After we ran the Baja 1000 we opened up the Magdog that we were testing to see what was going on in our engine and we were shocked to see that after only 1096 miles how much stuff was on the magnets, Granted the Baja is an extreme non stop 1000 miles of nothing but dirt and silt it was amazing to see what was taken out of the oil before it had a chance to block a small oil galley or ruff up some bearing surfaces.
